Australian shelves love a pink gin.
Why you are pouring this tonight
The Pink Gin & Tonic is the G&T made with a pink gin (rose-petal infused, or strawberry-and-rhubarb, or fig-and-rosemary). Pink gin, premium tonic, lots of ice, a strawberry slice or fig wedge to garnish. The drink that taught Australia in 2018 that gin did not have to be juniper-only.
Use Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin, Poor Toms Strawberry Gin, or any decent boutique pink gin. Premium tonic (Fever-Tree, Strangelove, Capi). Spanish copa glass, full of ice. The garnish should match the gin: strawberry slices for a strawberry gin, fig wedges for a fig gin, a peach slice for a peach gin. Pair with charcuterie, brie, anything with a fresh-fruit element on the cheese plate.
What changes from the Gin and Tonic
Pink or shiraz gin. Grapefruit slice and basil garnish. Works beautifully with light tonic.
What to pour it alongside
Prosciutto and melon, summer salads, grilled prawns. The gin’s sweetness lifts cold food.
